Hello Members and Friends of DAD,
The month of May is already here and, beyond our imagination, our
weather HAS BEEN SO NICE so far!
Even though I have lived in Dallas for more than three years, I just am not
too fond of the heat! This cool fresh air certainly helps me breathe well.
Last month, when Mike Houston, with Deaf Link, gave a presentation about
Accessible Hazard Alert System
(AHAS) (external website) at DAD, it was a wonderful learning experience for
us all to find out the various ways on how to alert Deaf people during emergency
situations.
Some of you watched ASL Films "Forget Me Not" movie and met one of the Deaf
actors, Theron Parker. FYI: Theron is returning to Dallas and will do one-man
performance, "UNCUT ASL" on May
10th at 7:00pm. I need to inform those who plan to attend that you would have to
be 18 years old or older. If under 18 then he/she would need to be accompanied
by one or both of his/her parents.
I learned that the 'Ladies Night' was a great turn out, and I MISSED IT! Dang
it. I know that we ladies want to have more poker fun nights again soon. Keep
your eyes peeled for the next 'LADIES NIGHT' date.
Hey! We are having a Family Movie Night, May 23rd, Friday! Dads, Moms and
children (hearing or Deaf) are more than welcome to come to watch the captioned
"The Bee Movie" at 7:00pm. It's a great opportunity to meet other Deaf/hearing
parents and children as well. Contact Cindi Nagy (cmnagy@yahoo.com)
if you have any questions.
FYI: the new Senior Citizens met together a couple weeks ago and all agreed
the need to set up new guidelines to ensure all agree the same future plans and
goals. Their next gathering will be on May 24th, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For more
information please contact Susan Lane (suslane@att.net)
who was selected as the Senior Citizens chairperson.
Ready for some exciting news? The Deaf Happy Hour (DHH) has scheduled their
next gathering at our clubhouse! It'll be on May 24th. Ronnie Smith, the new
chairperson, and I are looking forward to make this a great, successful, & fun
evening!
SCRAPBOOKERS and STAMPERS, mark your calendar, May 31st, for our third
gathering! Check our calendar in near future for more details.
